Get Your Groove On

Illinois State University’s 2012 Homecoming is October 1-7th.  Here at LEAPForward we are actively preparing for the excitement that will be in the air next week.  Homecoming provides a time for alumni to fondly remember their days at ISU; to rekindle relationships with alumni friends, faculty, and staff; and to refresh about new and exciting happenings at their Alma Mater.

One of those new and exciting things happens to be LEAPForward, and we are preparing ourselves to get the word out and gain awareness during the upcoming week.  We will be participating in a number of events, the first being the campus decorating contest.  Our office is decorated with the best 70’s décor we could find, and Reggie Redbird even made a guest appearance to disco dance with us this week.

Perhaps the most important event we will be partaking in is the Homecoming parade.  The parade will provide us our first real opportunity to get in front of alumni, and the Bloomington-Normal community.  We are very excited to begin interacting with these audiences, and we are very excited to be a part of such a strong tradition here at ISU with the Homecoming festivities.

Employee Spotlight:  Emily Derege, Project Specialist

Background:  I grew up in Normal, also considered a “townie”.  I graduated from Normal Community High School, stayed at Heartland for 2 years, and transferred to the University of Iowa.  My major was Communication, and I am currently pursuing my masters in Communication with an emphasis on Public Relations.  I enjoy interpersonal communication and working closely with my constituents.  I am glad to be a part of the LEAPForward Initiative at ISU, and am excited about the progress we are making and can’t wait to see what the future brings with this project.

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor? If I could chose anyone as a mentor it would be my dad.  I’ve always respected his integrity and value as a community leader. As a retired judge, his occupation challenged his morals and ethics, but he always seemed to make the right decision.  He also did and continues to volunteer many hours to community service throughout McLean County.
What is your favorite form of exercise? My favorite form of exercise is running.  I run in the morning before work, it get me up and going for the day!
